Native to Michigan. Prefers moist, well drained soils. Fairly adaptable to many conditions, except very wet sites. Small, clustered, purple-lavender buds in early spring open to pink-lavender flowers in April before foliage emerges. Full sun to light shade. Seeds are eaten by many birds.
